Designed by Marc Newson in 1998, this set of three minimalist drinking glasses was produced for Qantas First Class as part of his ambitious A380 interior project. Originally manufactured by Iittala and airline-branded, the glasses reflect Newson’s precise, functional aesthetic and clean lines. Suitable for whisky, water, or everyday use, they are understated design objects and part of one of the most comprehensive design briefs in commercial aviation. The brief included hundreds of different objects, including all of the accessories – trays, glasses, plates, cutlery, blankets, coat hooks, carpets, bathroom fittings, door knobs, reading lights, textiles and so on – as well as fixtures and the highly sophisticated and technically advanced aircraft seats.
